The Office of the President announces to the general public the dismissal of the following officers from the Gambia Armed Forces;
Col. Mamatar Secka Commander Military Police, Major Kuluteh Manneh Army Headquarters, Lt. Famara Jassey Army Headquarters and Lt. Col. Abdoulie Jatta Gambia National Guard.
President Jammeh also made the following appointments in the Gambia Armed Forces and the Gambia Police Force, with immediate effect;
Yankuba Sonko as Acting IGP, Commodore Sillah Kujabi as Acting Navy Commander, Lt. Col. Kawsu Sanyang as Commandant of Gambia of Armed Forces Training School, Commissioner Famara Jallow reinstated and appointed as deputy Inspector General of Police.
The Voice Newspaper also gathered that the former IGP, Navy Commander and Co are reported to have been arrested.
According to the Point Newspaper, when the Army Public Relation Officer Lt. Beyai was contacted he said: “I only know of their dismissal but not their arrest.”
“No I don’t know anything concerning these people,” The Point Newspaper quoted the Police Public Relation Officer, Secka to have said when contacted.
Earlier on, the dismissal of the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Yankuba Drammeh was announced. Drammeh who has been fired for the second time was dismissed with effect from 26th February.
Drammeh was dismissed and demoted to the rank of private on 30th November 2009, only to be re-instated and promoted to the rank of Major General on December 2, 2009. VOL:2 ISSN:120
