Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The controversy that marred the Zonal Final between Serrekunda East and Bakau has finally been laid to rest as both parties knew their fate after the Football
Association’s Committee report was made public through a media dispatch.

The Gambia Football Association (GFA) imposed a fine of D2000 for Assan Jatta (Bakau), D5000 Demba Sanyang and Lamin Jallow (Bakau United), and D5000 for Buba Jallow (Serrekunda East) for what the committee says was their involvement in the zonal controversy.

GFA also handed a one-year ban on Bakau Zonal team from taking part in the Presidential Sponsored tournament. All players for the Bakau zone are also banned from playing for other teams during the course of the one-year ban.

However, Serrekunda East, who have been busy organising victory celebrations prior to the announcement of the Committee’s report, where declared Champions of the 2009 Muhammed Jammeh Perpetual Championship with cash
prize of D50,000.

East were leading by a lone goal before the match was brought to a halt by Central, Papa Gassama when violence erupted amongst rival fans.

According to the GFA Committee’s report, the runners- up position have been nullified and the cash prize will be added to the monies to be distributed amongst other zones as consolation prices.

It took the football governing body of The Gambia more than a month to make its final decision on the much talked about football fracas in recent years. VOL:2 ISSN:84
