GYIN-Gambia launches ‘I Am a GYINer’ Campaign

The Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter, GYIN-Gambia on Sunday launched the “I Am a GYINer National Campaign” at the Offices of The Voice newspaper along Sayerr Jobe Avenue, Serrekunda. 

The launch of the Campaign supported by Phelps Stokes and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, coincided with celebrations marking International Youth Day 2012 on August 12.

(Mansabanko) - Ms Meita Touray Secretary General of the Global Youth Innovation Network-Gambia acronym GYIN-Gambia, who is also a Reporter with the Daily Observer Newspaper has been invited to attend the fourth Africa Carbon Forum (ACF) which is schedule to place in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa from the 18th-20th April 2012. Ms Touray on Tuesday 17 April, 2012 left Banjul International Airport for Ethiopia. 

The Forum organisers are the African Development Bank (ADB), International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UNEP Risø Centre, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), World Bank and its World Bank Institute, and is supported by the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Agency.

The secretary general, Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN-Gambia), Ms Meita Touray on March 27 arrived in Dakar to partake in the 2012 Global Greens Congress.

She is invited by the organisers, Global Greens to attend the 3^rd Congress, the first held in Africa, in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, from March 29-April 1, 2012. The 1^st and 2^nd congresses were held in Canberra, Australia, in 2001 and Sao Paolo, Brazil, in 2008.

The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN)-Gambia planned executive led by Mamadou Edrisa Njie, GYIN Gambia Ambassador had a meeting with the Country Programme Manager, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Moses Abukari on the operational of GYIN-Gambia as well as to introduce the planned executive.

 

The meeting was held at the Roc Height Lodge in Cape Point, Bakau on 22^nd February, 2012. The meeting aimed at briefing the IFAD Country Programme Manager about the activities and programmes GYIN-Gambia intended to carry out in the country.

NYP/Peace Ambassadors to observe Gambia presidential election
The National Youth Parliament (NYP) and Peace Ambassadors-The Gambia (formally of Youth Ambassadors of Peace) has announced on Tuesday that they will jointly observe the 2011 presidential election.

The two youth organisation said they will deploy their observer team in all seven administrative regions of The Gambia on Thursday and will submit a drafted report to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) within 24 hours, with a final report due on 26 November. 

Gambian Social Justice Activist to Attend Global Workshop – Fair

(Mansa Banko) Mamadou Edrisa Njie Social Justice Activist cum Journalist from The Gambia will be attending a Global Youth Innovation Workshop Fair from 10- 13 October in Cononou, Benin.

 The Youth Innovation Workshop Fair is organized to honor and celebrate young entrepreneurs’ achievements. 

The specific objectives of this event are: To bring together youths to share their perspectives and ideas in relation to their business models, to work toward solutions to common problems, and to enable the participants to showcase their products and services and share best practices.

Gambia: National Youth Policy fails to identify future

Our current national youth policy though develops through a consultative process, has failed to identify the type or quality of individuals and adults the Gambia needs for her future well-being, according to Mr Fabakary Kalleh, chairperson of the National Youth Council.

“Since justices between the present and the future generation is recognised as a fundamental based for sustainable development, our programmes and activities should truly aim at the next generation when we who conceive them will no longer be in power,” he stressed.
