Gambian Journalist Baboucarr Ceesay Arrested

Babucarr Ceesay, has been picked up by NIA this morning. He's crime is believe to be his request for a demonstration: Facebook/Gambia Free Expression.


The North Bank Evening Standard understands Gambian journalist Mr. Baboucarr Ceesay has been arrested by officials believed to be state security agents last night (on Thursday).

A facebook page post on Gambia Free Expression says: "Babucarr Ceesay, has been picked up by NIA this morning. He's crime is believe to be his request for a demonstration."

Sources told The North Bank Evening Standard he did not return home last night and was escorted to his house in handcuff for a search this morning. Details are sketchy and this information could not be independently verified.

Mr. Ceesay, an investigative journalist, is the publisher of The Gambia Watchdog. He is also the 1st Vice President of the Gambia Press Union and also a former editor at the The Voice and The Daily News newspapers in Banjul, The Gambia.
