Gambia Football Federation: Final Report of The Disciplinary Committee Alleges Gross Irregularities

MEMBERS OF THE DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE: Lawyer Gaye Sowe – Chairperson, Magistrate Ebrima Kijera – Member, and lawyer Tom Katusabe – Member – issued the following report on Monday July 16, 2013.

The Disciplinary Committee which was set up by the Normalisation Committee of The Gambia Football Federation to inquire into the conduct of the immediate past Executive Committee of the former Gambia Football Association in its management of the Association, based its inquiry on the audited financial reports and any relevant official documentation and administrative practice and recommended disciplinary action to the Normalisation Committee.

As per the GFA Constitution, the role of the GFA Executive was to guide the GFA in matters of management, policy and governance.

The powers of the Executive were set out under section 3 of the then constitution of the GFA.

More Revelation as to the D8 Million Debt at the GFA

The Gambia Football Association, GFA, Normalisation Committee recently declared that it has inherited D8 million in arrears from the former executive.

Speaking at a press briefing at Football House, the first since the committee was installed last March, Omar Sey, spokesman of the committee said they have been able to raise a loan to settle the salary arrears and dues of retained and retrenched staff and are in touch with our legal team to make an advance towards settling the court action that impounded our bus.

 
But Sports View Newspaper managed to get the official summary of GFA creditors which was prepared by the Normalization committee led by OB Conateh which represents a bogus figure aims at discrediting the tremendous development programme undertaken by Seedy Kinteh led executive committee.

Gambia has found itself fixed at one place in the latest world and regional rankings, following the national soccer team’s disastrous performance in their last competitive match.

Gambia remains stuck at 113^th place in the world and 30^th place in Africa according to the latest FIFA ranking. The same positions held by the country in last month’s football rating.

The May 9, 2012 ratings saw Gambia maintaining the same score, 292 points, based on the poor or inactivity of the national team, the Scorpions, is enough to get the whole country stuck in global and continental football.

Gambia’s Ministry of Youths and Sports on February 2, 2012 disband the country’s entire Football Association, two days after the Scorpions lost 2-1 at home to the Desert Foxes of Algeria in the first leg of the preliminary round of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. 

Sports Minister Alieu K. Jammeh based the decision on grounds that the country is making “no headway in continental and global competition.”

Revealing the news to anxiously waiting journalists at a hostel behind the Stadium in Bakau, the newly appointed Minister Jammeh said: “It is now time to excuse the executive and set a new interim committee that will take care of the country’s football.”

Algeria grabs a crucial away win over the Gambia in Wednesday’s first leg preliminary rounds of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2013 qualifiers.

The Desert Foxes of Algeria came from behind to beat the Scorpions of the Gambia 2-1 at the Independence Stadium in Banjul on February 29, 2012. The win gives the visitors a significant advantage over their opponents going into the return leg in June.

Gambia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Gambia Football Association (GFA) on October 31, 2011 terminated senior national team coach Paul Put’s contract, barely two years before it was due to expire, according to media reports.

The same applies to his compatriot Franco Cresintini, an Italian goal keeper trainer of the senior national team.

Mr Put and his team (Scorpions of The Gambia) on October 8 ended a pitiful African Nations Cup qualifying campaign in a draw (1-1) against Burkina Faso in Banjul, having gone into the game with heads held low and hoping to gain nothing near a qualification spot, after shamefully loosing to Namibia in Windhoek earlier.

GFA suspends Interior Coach Manneh

(The Point) - The organising committee of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) has suspended Interior head coach Ebrima Manneh for the rest of the first round of the Gambia Football Association division one league season.

The suspension of Coach Manneh is as a result of his accusations levied on the GFA president Seedy Kinteh for bribing referees during his side’s 1-1 with Bakau United at the West Mini-stadium last Saturday.

Manneh is also facing a fine of D5, 000. The GFA has also suspended Interior player Baboucarr Sarr for four games after abusing the centre referee.

Gambia to host WAFU General Assembly

Banjul has been penciled down as the venue for the next elective General Assembly of the West African Football Union (WAFU), Observer Sports can reveal.

The one-day gathering, which will gather FA presidents from all the 16-member countries and other continental football dignitaries including the Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Danny Jordan, is scheduled for April 9, 2011 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.
This development, according the president of the Gambia Football Association Mr Seedy Kinteh, was made on the sidelines of the 33rd General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held last month in Khartoum, Sudan.

Gambia U23 withdraw from Olympic qualifier

Rumors had been spreading for a week or so after Observer Sports’ initial report that the Gambia Football Association were struggling to come up with the funds to pay for the Gambia Under 23’s participation in the 2012 London Olympic qualifiers.

Now it has been confirmed: The Under 23 team have been withdrawn from the qualifier barely a week before their first leg preliminary fixture against Benin in Coutonou.

The president of the Gambia Football Association, Seedy Kinteh owes the withdrawal to financial reason.

“We have to pull out of the qualifiers because we have no fund to support the team,” he said.

Giving the exposure the team would have enjoyed at the London finals, this withdraw would be a bitter blow for the players who have now had their chance taken away from them through no fault of their own.

The Under 23 withdrawal also means Gambian fans will now turn all attention to the U-20 team preparing for the delayed African U-20 Youth Championship finals, albeit the preparations of coach Lamin Sarr’s tutored side are far from being smooth.

Defending champions opens league with win

The defending champions of the Gambia Football Association Premier League, Gambia Port Authority (GPA) started their title defence with a win over Africell FC on Wednesday 9^th March, 2011 at the Father Gough Sport Complex in Manjai Kunda.

GPA bounces back with a 1-0 win over Africell after 72 hours of loosing the Super Cup to Gamtel on Sunday 6^th March.
