Gambia’s Scorpions captain, Mustapha Jarju said his side’s principal objective was to secure a win against Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the Saturday opener of the Brazil 2014 world cup qualifying round.

The game ended their Group C match at the Independence Stadium in Banjul with a 1-1 draw on June 2, 2012.

Following a set of dismal performances in previous international games, Captain Jarju knew just how important this game was.

“For us the game was very important and also important for the Gambian supporters,” he said. “Even though the objective was to secure a win, I believe the draw was a fair result.”

He said his side should thank God for securing a point hence their aim of winning could not be achieved. He is already looking forward to their trip to Darussalam on June 10 against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.

He said: “Now the most important thing is to give confidence to the team and hope to grab the three points in Tanzania.”
