(cafonline) The groups for the
Africa Cup of Nations 2012 have been drawn in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea with
the main talking point being the Group C where co-hosts Gabon will fight it out
with Niger, Morocco and Tunisia for a quarter final place. The other co-host
Equatorial Guinea were also handed a challenging draw in Group A where they
face Libya, Senegal and Zambia.
Cot d’Ivoire should pull
through from Group B where it has the company of Sudan, Burkina Faso and
Angola. Four time champions Ghana are in Group D with debutants Botswana, Mali
and Guinea.
The draw ceremony was
attended by the two presidents from the host countries, President Ali Bongo of
Gabon and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea who were the top
dignitaries along with CAF President Issa Hayatou.
The three week
tournament will take place in cities; Libreville and Franceville in Gabon and
Bata and Malabo in Equatorial Guinea.
From the calendar, Group “A” teams will based in
Bata; Group “B” - Malabo, Group “C “– Libreville and Group “D” –
Franceville.
