GFF Election: Football Clubs Withdraw Kinteh’s Candidacy

The NC banned former FA President Seedy Kinteh (Pic) and Vice President Adama Halla Samba from running for elected office following allegations of “financial misuse” and “maladministration”.

Brikama United FC and Bakau United FC have agreed to withdraw the nomination of Seedy M.B. Kinteh’s candidature for the presidency of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) with immediate effect, the two clubs said on Monday.

“This decision was reach in the best interest of national peace and security,” the clubs added in a joint statement. The decision was reached after “a thorough consultation” with the relevant stakeholders, they said.

Kinteh, a former FA President and his Vice President Adama Halla Samba are banned for five year by the Normalisation Committee (NC) from running for elected office earlier this month following allegations of “financial misuse” and “maladministration”.

Both have denied the allegations and have accused the NC of presiding over a smear campaign and witch-hunting exercise against the Kinteh-led Executive Committee that was dissolved by The Gambia’s Sports Ministry on March 2, 2012.

On July 29, Brikama United Secretary General, Alagie S. Darboe said: “We fervently believe that his nomination was as a result of his uniqueness in attaining excellent results that propelled Gambian football to very appreciable heights in the recent past.”

“These achievements were retarded by the unfortunate and unwarranted dissolution of the Executive Committee of The Gambia Football Association (GFA) in which he served as the President,” added Borri Darboe, Bakau United Secretary General.

Now, the two clubs announced that Kinteh has decided to give his support to presidential hopeful Mustapha Kebbeh, who is one of two candidates running for the post of GFF president.

According to them, Kinteh is asking all and sundry to vote for Mr Kebbeh in Wednesday’s (July 31) GFF Congress.

They promised to pursue excellence in football development and promotion for the good of The Gambia, a tiny West African nation.
