National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Comrade Mohammed Garba has pleaded with the Boko Haram sect for understanding, saying their recent threat is capable of throwing the media into confusion.

Garba, who addressed newsmen in Gombe shortly after his re-election campaign said, what the media needs is the support and understanding of all stakeholders to enable it discharge its responsibilities as expected by the people.

He said already, the Nigerian media is bedevilled with multifaceted challenges of operating in a very difficult environment, adding that any threat at this time will be unhealthy because it will discourage the media from discharging its duties.

“Now, it will be very difficult for the media to for instance report the sect because they don’t know what they will air. Basically, what we need is for them to give us their support so that we can report them well and also report the side of the government too,” he said.
