Nurses and Midwives to Promote Ethics and Honour of Profession


Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The Secretary General of The Gambia Nurses and Midwives Association (GANMA) has disclosed that the executive body of GANMA has came up with a number of issues to promote and support the status, ethics and honour of their profession.

Mr. Sahiou Sanneh (Gibsa) was speaking to The Voice Newspaper in an interview at his residence in Fajikunda on Sunday 28th March, 2010.

According to Mr. Saihou Sanneh, the Association aimed at advancing the professional status and standards of nurses and midwives; to positively influence health and social polices in enhancing the standard of nursing and midwifery; to promote the socio-economic welfare of nurses and midwives and encourage their rights to
negotiate to improve conditions at work.

NAMs Up to Promote Accountability and Transparency in Public Sector



Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) National Assembly Members (NAMs) drawn from the Public Account Committee and Public Enterprise Committee (PAC-PEC) recently benefited from a three-day capacity building programme on how to scrutinize and hold public enterprises accountable on the used of government funds and resource. 

The programme, which is geared toward bringing about accountability in the Public Service Sector, was organised by the National Assembly in collaboration with DFIF and PKF from the 22nd to 24th March, 2010 in Banjul. 

Vision 2020 Remains the Central Focus of Government- says President Jammeh


Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said that the attainment of
Vision 2020 remains the central focus of his government’s socio-economic development agenda, saying that
it is less than ten years to 2020, the goal post that was set in 1996 when the vision was crafted.

Speaking at the State opening of the House of representatives 2010, on Friday in Banjul, the Gambian leader admit that vision looked  rather unattainable, due to resource limitations, but have achieved half of the objectives and the rest are within the reach.

He said, his government will put in place concrete plans that would cost and fashion performance indicators for, monitor, progress, in order to achieve vision 2020, or even before that.

PURA Clarifies to Avoid Confusion in GSM Market


Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The Public Utility Regulatory Authority has announced that it want to clarify the recent QCell advert published on the Daily Observer and Today Newspapers on 24th March, 2010, comparing the tariffs of Africell and QCell.

In a press realise, PURA said the same advertisement placed on a billboard at the traffic lights on Kairaba Avenue, Bertil Harding Highway intersection was not sanctioned by the Regulatory Authority.

For the sake of complete clarity and the avoidance of doubt and confusion in the market, the release said PURA wishes to inform the general public that it has published the telephone tariffs of all the operators from
March 22, 2010. “This is what we have done for more than a year to inform consumers,” the Regulatory Body said.

FIFA Grants GFA D1, 400.000 for Artificial Turf


Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The World Football Governing Body (FIFA) has granted The Gambia Football Association US$400, 000.00 for the construction of another artificial turf in The Gambia.

”FIFA in its magnanimity has granted the GFA with a handsome amount of US$400,000.00 for the construction of the second synthetic pitch in The Gambia,” the GFA said in a media dispatch.
