Textile Dealers want Gov’t to Implement Importation Laws

Dealers in the Ghanaian local textile industry have made a strong case for government to implement laws regarding the importation of textile products from other countries especially China.

This has become necessary because the dealers claim that the imported textiles were cheap, the local textiles were not selling and that was throwing most of them out of their businesses.

(MyCommunityPortal) Inmates of the various prisoners in Ghana will get the chance to exercise their franchise in the 2012 general elections following a Supreme Court ruling that gave the green light. A follow up by the Blog, mycommunityportal  has revealed that the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is putting measures in place to register the prisoners to enable them vote in the coming general elections.

Ghana, with a population of 24 million, is a constitutional democracy with a strong presidency and a unicameral 230-seat parliament. In 2008 the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) won both the presidency and a small majority in parliament in an election deemed generally free and fair by domestic and international observers; John Evans Atta Mills was inaugurated president in January 2009. There were instances in which elements of the security forces acted independently of government authorities.

The Future of Ghana Textile Industry Hangs In The Balance

Accra, Ghana (TNBES) It appears that the textile industry in Ghana which was once the heart-beat of Africa is heading for a gloom future with huge disagreements among buyers and sellers on the state of the industry.

Ghana, a one time leader in the textile industry in Africa is now drifting backward with the intervention of new textile technology from other developing countries like China and Togo.

Most sellers at the main Makola Market in Accra see the local industry as been outdated and lacking the technology to cope with advances in other developing countries.
