Medina Wins Ndofan in Non-League Football Final

Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) Medina FC defeated the host Ndofan FC in a penalty shootout in the final of the 2009 Ndofan Nawettan (non-league) at the Biri Biri Football Field in Ndofan Village, Lower Niumi District on Sunday 7th March, 2010.

The 2009 Ndofan Nawettan Finals featured only four teams (Berending, Fass Njaga Choi, Madina Serign Mass and the host, Ndofan).

The two teams went head to head in a closely fought match with early chance as Ndofan’s Modou Surr’s cross from the far side of the field in the 5 minute found Alieu Sarr, who was not able to control the ball, leaving
Madina’s Bai Mbye Gassama to clear his line.

Ebou Sowe’s free kick in the 7th minute was headed by Jully Ndow for the first corner of the game and it went to Ndofan.

Madina’s Muhammed Sallah saw his free-kick in the 13th minute was headed away by Ndofan’s Alieu Sarr. The home side, Ndofan wins their first free-kick in the 18th
minute after Madina’s Bambalie fouls Modou Surr, but Ebou Sowe’s shot was very
easy for goalkeeper Ebrima Njie.

After the break, both sides pushes hard in search of an opener but the goals were not forthcoming from either side as both teams has had a number of chances missed.

Ndofan’s duo, Yusuppa Marong and Modou Surr made a good exchanged passes deep into the opponents half but the latter’s shot found shot-stopper Ebrima Njie well positioned.

Ndofan wasted what seemed their best chance of the night in the 37th minute when Modou Bahoum had only the goalkeeper to beat, but his poor handling of the ball was enough to clear the danger.

The two teams resorted to penalty shoot-outs after a completed deadlock in full time and Madina won 4-2.

As the champions of the 2009 Ndofan Nawettan, Medina were awarded a trophy and cash prize of D3000, the host and runners-up, Ndofan received a cash prize of D2000 and Fass
Njaga Choi grabs the most discipline team award with a cash prize of D500.

The Nawettan final of the Lower Niumi District village of Ndofan, was played on 7th March 2010, at the Biri Biri Football Ground in Ndofan Village after the non-league (Nawettan) season had close
almost five months ago.

Our reporter said the reason behind the delay is that the committee always wants to schedule a date for the final that will be suitable for the likes of former Gambian international, the Independence Stadium Manager
and GFA President to grace the occasion.

“They want people like Biri Biri, Musa Njie and Seedy Kinteh to have the chance to attend the final, that is why it was played at last on March 7, 2010,” Voice Sports
Alieu Bobb said.
