The increment in cost and the change from machine readable to biometric passports will not affect current passport holders, according to immigration officials. |
A new biometric
passport that will be introduced today, September 22 will cost up to D3000,
according to Gambia’s Immigration Department.
The cost of a Gambian
passport was initially pegged at D500 over the years, but was increased to D1000 in
2010.
This latest move by the immigration department means a 200 per cent
increment to the cost of the national document.
A brief statement from
the Immigration said the payments for passports are to be done at any Ecobank office in the country.
The increment in cost and the change from machine readable to
biometric passports will not affect current passport holders.
According to the
Immigration department, the present machine readable passports “are valid until their expiry date” mentioned on their bio-data page.
