The
police prosecution has announced Tuesday that it has closed its case in the
trial of two journalists at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
Musa
S. Sheriff, editor-in-chief of The Voice newspaper and freelance journalist Sainey M.K. Marenah have denied
charges of ”conspiracy to commit
misdemeanor” and ”false publication” brought against them by the police in
Banjul on January 16.
On
26 August, 2014 Assistant Supreintendent Musa Camara, prosecuting, told the
Court he want to close the prosecution’s case after calling eight witnesses.
Magistrate
Muhammed Krubally, presiding, has adjourned the trial till 28 August for the
accused persons to open their defence.
The
trial emanate from the publication of a political defections (from the ruling
APRC to the opposition UDP) article by The Voice in December 2013.
