FIFA: Respect Normalisation Committee’s Decision

“Good governance has become more and more important and as you know FIFA has undertaken big internal changes to meet the challenges,” said FIFA, which has in the recent past been tainted by allegations of “corruption”.
Football’s world governing body, FIFA, has called on stakeholders in Banjul to respect the Normalisation Committee’s (NC) decision to ban certain members of the former Gambia FA executive committee.

On July 24, FIFA acknowledged receipt of documents from the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Disciplinary Committee in relation to the on-going electoral process.

Last week, the NC issued a five-year ban on two candidates (former FA President Seedy Kinteh and Vice President Adama Halla Samba) and the entire former executive committee from running for elected office following allegations of “financial misuse” and “maladministration”.

Ex-FA President Kinteh is banned
We understand that GFA organs had sanctioned some officials due to their responsibilities in the deplorable situation of the GFA when you took over such a diversion of FIFA money meant for football development to personal favours or the unaccountability of supposes expenses, according to a letter from FIFA given to the media by the NC.

“We also remember your initial difficulties to get some services from providers because of outstanding debts and your worries about the Social Security of the GFA staff who had not been paid contrary to what was pretended,” added the letter signed by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

“Good governance has become more and more important and as you know FIFA has undertaken big internal changes to meet the challenges,” said FIFA, which has in the recent past been tainted by allegations of “corruption”.

The same is expected from member associations and as mentioned during the last FIFA congress held in Mauritius, stricter rules will be gradually implemented in order for the football family to be more and more transparent in its management, the Zurich-based FIFA said.

It said Primo Corvaro and Prosper Abega will attend the upcoming elections as FIFA observers and CAF observers – whose itineraries will be communicated separately.
