UTG Students Union elects broadcaster Nfally Fadera as new secretary general

The University of The Gambia Students Union, UTGSU, elected news broadcaster Nfally Fadera as its new secretary general in March 2013.

Fadera is renowned for his news broadcast in the Mandinka local language he started at the now defunct Taranga FM which was closed down by the government in August 2012. He now works at Star FM.

“Students should be able to speak with one voice and look beyond departments and schools,” Fadera said prior to his election. He talked about his commitment to maintain the spirit of unionism by constantly informing students about the activities of the executive council to making them feel part of a union.

“An awaken people is empowerment and an empowered people is a plus to leadership,” Fadera said of his intention to have a weekly newsletter at the UTG. This, he said, will give students the opportunity to express themselves, be informed, educated and entertained.

He said the Union will be committed to maintaining strong mutual relationship with the university administration in solving issues relating to tuition fee deadlines, and the harmonization of timetables for the different schools within the UTG.

Federa reiterated his commitment to work with the different school associations, clubs, organizations and other bodies within the university to make UTG a better place for everybody.

He is studying political science at the university.
