| GFA President Seedy Kinteh was sacked on March 2, 2012 |
A facebook post by senior Gambian sports journalist Namory Trawally, says the New Year greeting, sent through the GFA mail address, was signed by both FIFA president Sepp Blatter and General Secretary Jerome Valcke.
Mr Blatter is said to have wished Mr Seedy Kinteh “a happy new year 2013, good health, prosperity and an every success for the future on both a professional and a private level”.
Kinteh is the first
Gambian to serve in the FIFA Standing committee following his appointment as
member of the FIFA Development committee in January 2012 - which earned him the
history of being the first Gambian to win a FIFA Award, the post said.
Mr Kinteh and his entire executive were sacked by Gambia’s Sports Minister Alieu K. Jammeh on March 2, 2012 following the Scorpions 2-1 home defeat to the Desert Foxes of Algeria in a preliminary qualifier for AFCON 2013.

Ever since his
sacking, the country is still without an elected football governing body
committee. A six months deadline for the conduct of elections was extended by
FIFA in September 2012.
Elections are now
scheduled for March 2013, but Kinteh is unlikely to run.
