Singer Freaky Joe rocks Europe

Gambian singer Freaky Joe, recently concluded a European tour that took him to Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Finland. 

The tour followed the release of his latest album: “Mansay Kay” meaning (the President). 

Freaky Joe, whose real name is Lamin Singateh, is one of Gambia’s leading dancehall artists.

“Last summer I was in Helsinki and it was my first performance in Finland and this Åland show this year was a spectacular one,” Singhateh told The Voice entertainment column on September 19. 

The Åland islands collectively constitute the smallest region of Finland, with only 0.49% of its land area, and 0.50% of its population

He said the performance, held at the Island's most historic pub, Bastun, was greeted by heavy downpour. “It was a superb musical night, interesting with pride and joy,” he added. 

He said the show attracted a lead of hit singles, nominations and awards to his credit, has attracted   lots of reggae lovers on the Island and also Gambians living in neighbouring Sweden. 

The show was organised by Gambian promoter in Finland Alieu Khan who takes Singhateh as one of Gambia's most successful reggae dancehall artists.

 “My music is widely loved and Åland has appreciated my style of reggae, which is influenced by Senegambian beats,” he said. 

Freaky Joe noted, Mr. Khan like Gambian musicians who are original and that makes it easy for him to market them abroad.
