She is invited by the organisers, Global Greens to attend
the 3rd Congress, the first held in Africa, in the Senegalese
capital, Dakar, from March 29-April 1, 2012. The 1st and 2nd
congresses were held in Canberra, Australia, in 2001 and Sao Paolo, Brazil, in
2008.
The congress is hosted by the Fédération Démocratique des
Ecologistes du Sénégal (FEDES) in partnership with the African Green Federation
and the Global Greens Coordination. It is aims to enhance and empower the network
between young green activists and organisations around the world; work on a
green vision and an action plan for GYG network; exchange green skills and
discuss cooperatives for poverty eradication, education and health for all,
youth grassroots training and women empowerment in Africa.
A statement from GYIN-Gambia confirms Ms Touray’s
participation. “As a delegate representing GYIN-Gambia, she will have the
opportunity to participate in decision making during the General Assembly,” the
statement said.
“The Global Greens congress is being held in Africa, a
continent that exemplifies both the hope and the challenge of the many pressing
issues facing the world,” said Ms Touray, who added: “There will be an opportunity
to pass proposals, action plans and elect a new Steering Committee.”
According to her,
the Global Greens Congresses are exhilarating, empowering and vital. It bring
together people all over the Green world with different cultures, diverse
histories and many languages but united by a sense of global citizenship and
committed to common political values and ideals.
The congress also have on its agenda the push for real
democracy flowering in north Africa, the need for fundamental economic reform
and a Green New Deal, climate change and energy, and the safeguarding of life
itself - the world's biodiversity, especially in marine environments.
On the sidelines of the congress, is a gender seminar
which has three concrete objectives - an introduction to gender with a focus on
different background and best-practices; networking; and awareness raising.
This session targets young political activists from all
countries who are already active in their respective networks or interested in
the topic. GYIN-Gambia secretary, who will be partaking in this session said
they will be introduced to sexual and reproductive rights, sexual violence and
conflict, raise your voice using the social media, interactive space and study
visit to a women's shelter in Dakar.
