| Relieved Interior Minister, Ousman Sonko to serve in Spain |
As President Yahya Jammeh continues to appoint in dribs and
drabs ministers for his new government, the reorganization process in its
latest revolve show Mr. Ousman Sonko, Minister for the Interior relieved from
his post.
This development came less than two weeks after his re-appointment
as Interior minister. However, news broadcast over State
TV on February 9, 2012 revealed that Mr. Sonko has been appointed Gambia’s
Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, a position earlier held by Mr. Kebba
Touray. Meanwhile, Touray has since taken over as minister of trade, industry,
employment and regional integration.
On February 8, 2011, Jammeh made three more appointments to
the cabinet, with Fatou Lamin Faye retaining her portfolio as minister of Basic
and Secondary Education; Teneng Mba Jaiteh also maintain her position as deputy
minister of Petroleum and Energy.
And Fatou Gaye, a Principal Climate Change Official is appointed minister of Forestry and the Environment. She replaces Mr. Jatto Sillah.

Mr. Sillah is yet to be given an other job under the Jammeh administration. He has served for long in environmental offices of the state.
The Gambian leader had earlier dissolved an entire cabinet
shortly after his inauguration marking the beginning of his fourth-five-year
term of office. He was elected president late last year with an incredible 72
per cent of the total votes cast.
Jammeh holds several
ministerial positions in the last cabinet, but it is unclear if he will
surrender them to others and concentrate fully on the already demanding
position of the presidency.
Former rival
On Friday February 10, 2012, Jammeh appoints a previous strong
opposition rival Mr. Lamin Waa Juwara as Minister of Local Government and Lands.
Mr. Juwara had worked under Jammeh since 2009 as governor of the Lower River Region. He still leads his party, the National Democratic Action Movement (NDAM).
Mr. Alieu K. Jammeh is now Minister of Youth and Sports,
while his predecessor, Sheriff Gomez holds the portfolio of Minister of the
Interior and NGO Affairs. Solomon Owens is the Deputy Minister of Agriculture
and Laity Mboge as Deputy Minister of Works.

Meanwhile, the fate of Mr. Edward Gomez, former Attorney
General and Minister of Justice is still hanging on a balance of probability
after the announcement on Friday that he has been replaced by Justice Lamin
Joberteh.
