Ghana: Former Vice President to chair Security Watch Africa Awards/Lecture

(MyCommunityPortal) Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has been invited to chair this years Security Watch Africa Awards/Lecture, scheduled to take place in The Gambia. 

It is the 7th time in a row that the event is being organized to recognize personalities who have distinguished themselves in the field of security in Africa, after being successfully held in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, in previous years.





The two day event (October 13 – 14, 2011) would be staged at the plush Sheraton Gambia Hotel Resort and Spa, Brufut Heights.
The former Vice President, a proud recipient of Security Watch Africa Award in 2008, is expected to bring his rich experience to stir the affairs of the two day event.

Organisers of the program told The Chronicle that Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Security Watch Africa a year after receiving an award, was selected to chair the function because of the transparent manner he conducted himself during his eight-year rein as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

“We selected him because of the transparent manner he conducted himself in office,” said Tony White Meribe, Head of Ghana Operations, Security Watch Africa.
“The Security Watch Africa’s Board of Trustees considered your great contribution towards the socio-political and economic development of the West African sub-region, and decided to have you as the Chairman of both the 2011 Lecture series, with the theme: ‘Can Africa Get its Security and Infrastructure Right? The event will be held on 13^th October and the Awards ceremony on 14th October, 2011,” the International Coordinator/CEO of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbambu, was quoted as saying in the invitation letter.

Security Watch Africa Awards was initiated and inaugurated in 2004, with the aim to recognise, appreciate, encourage and celebrate individuals, governments, agencies, brands and companies who have excelled in security administration, practice and governance in Africa.

The lecture series, which was introduced in 2005, is aimed at identifying security problems affecting Africa and her people, discuss these problems and proffer actionable solutions.

The mission is to bridge the gap of information that exists between security providers and security users, and between government and the governed. The world acclaimed event is expected to bring together some heads of Africa Governments, some heads of Africa Parliaments/National Assemblies, Representative of foreign embassies serving in various African countries, captains of industries and banks, the award recipients as well Africa Media Executives.
