The awards were restricted to only three categories: Investigations, Health and Sports, of which Foroyaa Newspaper’s Fabakary B. Ceesay, The Point Newspaper’s Dawda Faye and Sainabou Kujabi emerged as winners respectively.
The recipients were conferred with titles of “Best Investigative Journalist”, Best Health Journalist” and “Best Sport Journalist”.
The event, organised by the Gambia Press Union and funded by the National Commission for UNESCO in Banjul, was held at the TANGO Conference Hall, Bakau, May 3, 2011 under the theme “21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barrier”.
This year’s celebrations as witnessed in previous years attracted a good number of journalists, including media chiefs, non-state actors, politicians and the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Information.
The award is aimed at enhancing professionalism in The Gambian media, according to the GPU.
