Badjie’s cross-examination continues

Badjie - AKA- "Jesus"
On May 11, 2011, the prosecution proceeded with the cross-examination of the erstwhile Inspector General of Police Ensa Badjie, who is being tried on charges of robbers amongst others.
Badjie told the Special Criminal Division of the High Court in Banjul, presided by Justice Joseph Ikpala, that Landing Bojang, the 9th prosecution witness testified against him because he was angry with him after he was promoted to a post higher than that of Bojang.
Soriba Condeh, 1st prosecution witness among others also testify against me because I investigated their case and they where convicted, Badjie added. When the prosecution out to him that he had a problem with Landing Bojang because he (Badjie) was a robber in police uniform, he debunk the prosecution’s stance.
According to him, he started smoking cigarette (Piccadilly) between 2001 and 2002, however, he argued that he neither smoke different cigarettes nor receive any brands of cigarettes from Soriba Condeh.
Badjie told the Court that he cannot remember all what Soriba said in his testimony, his comment followed the prosecution stance that Soriba said in his testimony he gave three varieties of cigarettes to him.
He further stated that the 8th prosecution witness, Dodou Janneh was never under his command as a “volunteer informer”, instead he was under Landing Bojang (9th witness). “I have never seen Janneh as part of the task force and nor have I seen him arresting or arrested anyone, all I know of Janneh is that he murdered somebody and I arrested him,” he said.
Badjie pointed out that the allegations of murder against Dodou Janneh came after the arrest of Amadou Jallow, the 5th prosecution witness.
At this point, State Prosecutor Mikailu Abdullah asked for a brief stand down of the proceeding. He explained that he has a few questions that he wanted to put to Badjie but have misplaced them, but he wanted to go in search of it.
However, Badjie’s counsel, Borry Touray applied for an adjournment on grounds that he has another case to attend at the lower court.  Justice Ikpala then adjourn the case till May 18, 2011 for continuation. Source - The Voice
