No immediate plans to establish a High School in Sami District

The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye has revealed that there are no immediate plans to build a Senior Secondary School in Sami District in the Central River Region of The Gambia
She made the revelation while responding to Hon. Lamin Ceesay, National Assembly Member for Sami Constituency, who asked whether there are plans to build a Senior Secondary School in Sami, during a question and answer Session in the 1st meeting of the 2011 Legislative Year in the Gambian capital, Banjul on Tuesday, April 5.

However, Mrs. Faye said as part of her Ministry’s long term plan to bring education to the door steps of every Gambian child, the establishment of a senior secondary school in Sami will be considered in the future, as part of the annual school mapping exercise.
The electorate of Sami has since the First Republic, been learning how to make do without a high school.
Heal center, major or not
In a similar procedure, the Minister for Health and Social Welfare Fatim Badjie, represented by the Minister for Basic and Secondary Education Fatou Lamin Faye, was also due for questioning.
On behalf of the National Assembly Member for Kantora Hon. Saikou Susso, the Member for Jimara Hon. Mama Kandeh asked the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, to tell lawmakers when shall Fatoto Health Centre attain the standards of a Major Health Centre.
In response, Mrs. Faye said the Health Ministry has not mentioned that Fatoto Health Centre will be upgraded to a “Major” health centre.
“We have achieved one major health centre per Region throughout the country and have also abolished Dispensaries, upgrading them to Minor Health Centers,” she said.
Asked by Hon. Lamin Ceesay, Member for Sami whether her Ministry (Health) has any plan to upgrade Karantaba Health Centre to a major Health Centre as this is the only health facility in Sami constituency.
The Minister said: “Currently, Karantaba health centre has been upgraded from a Dispensary to a Minor Health Centre and will be elevated to a major health centre when the resources (human, infrastructure and equipment) are available.”
