Accra, Ghana (TNBES) West African journalists attending two-week training on the Role of the Media in conflict Transformation and Peace Building  in Accra, Ghana on Tuesday visited the country’s biggest publishing company, Graphic Communication Group Limited  (GCGL).

The visit was aimed at acquainting journalists with the operational system of the Company and to create room for activities as the lecturer for the first week was stranded  in Germany, due to the ash cloud.

The company currently publishes seven newspapers and an advertising newspaper which are all said to be market leaders in the industry as in Daily Graphic, The Mirror, Graphic Sports, Graphic Showbiz, Junior Graphic, Graphic Advertiser, graphic Nsempa and Graphic Business.

The Fourteen Journalists who visited the Company are drawn from Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria,
The Gambia and Togo.  The training is organised by the International Institute of Journalism of InWent Capacity  Building in Germany.

Briefing journalists, the Public Affairs Manager GCGL, Mr. Albert Sam said the Company is committed not to compromise with its credibility and professionalism.

“Dealing objectively and professionally with issues of conflict is all about the proper usage of language,” Sam told journalists with regards to conflict  transformation and peace building.

He also urged journalists to exercise caution in the use of language when reporting on issues of conflicts across the continent, while challenging them to build strong  journalists associations in their respective countries to ensure viable and  professional practice.

He also noted that the Daily Graphic publishes between 200 and 250, 000 copies on a daily basis. Vol:2 Issn:167
