Gamtel Taste Cake of Defeat


 
Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The league leaders, Gamtel on Friday 12th February, 2010 suffered their first defeat in five outings in the on-going GFA 1st Division League at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

It was their city rivals, Real De Banjul that gets an edge over them by a lone goal in the 21st minute when Baboucarr Jallow’s powerful shot deflected on Ousman Touray in the penalty box and get into the
net.

In the 44th minute, Gamtel came closer to letting in an equaliser after Njanko Gassama headed a cross from Pa Dodou Jammeh, but it was well read by Real’s goalkeeper Alagie Modou Jobe.

Malamin Singhateh’s shot from close range was once again denied by Real’s goalkeeper in the 49th minute, however in the 58th minute; Ebrima Cham failed to extend the lead when he directed a free header
straight into the hands of Gamtel’s goalkeeper Musa Camara.

The bottom side Real De Banjul holds on to their 1-0 lead after both Ousman Touray and Dimingo Manneh could not afford to bring the game all square in the 82nd and 84th minute respectively.

Speaking to Voice Sports after the match, Gamtel Coach Sulayman Corr said that it is not a bad game because they have been winning their past games.

“We prepared very well and come into the game but we loss, I feel very proud because my boys played well and created number of chances but failed to capitalize on the chances”, he said.

The Captain of Gamtel said he did not feel anything bad because they played very well, ‘it is just that we did not score.’

“Tactically, we are very good and we listened to the instructions of our coach, this is football and we have to accept it with good faith and look forward,” he said.

For his part, Pa Samba Mbenga, Coach of Real De Banjul said he is very happy because the result went his way. He said it was a hard fought game, looking into Gamtel as they are the current league leaders, it will not
be easy to beat them.

He also described the match as difficult, noting that it was a battle between the top and the bottom sides, so you can see that were trying to move from the bottom, while Real were looking forward to extending their
