Gambian Club Bow Out of Champions League

Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) Sooner had Armed Forces began their bid to prove their worth in Continental football than they bow out of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League on February 27, 2010.
The Gambian League Champions were sent parking in the second leg of the first round of the continent’s second most prestigious soccer tournament after a 5-1 aggregate in a two legged tie against North African outfit, JS Kabylie.
Armed Forces traveled to Algeria over the weekend (26th to 28 February) with hopes of turning a 2-1 home defeat only to suffer a 3-0 defeat to the two times African Champions, JS Kabylie.
Goals from Kabylie trio Ousalah Nassim, Meftah Mohammed and Seguer Mohammed secured a well deserved passage to the second round of the competition for the North Africans.
Kabylie who were on the driving seat prior to the return leg never look set to put their foot off the pedal as Ousalah Nassim grabs his team’s first goal of the night in the 24th minute.
The West African side hopes of turning the tie were further dented a blow when Meftah Mohammed put the North Africans 2-0 up with eight minutes in to the second half.
Armed Forces could not help but be disappointed as Seguer Mohammed wraps up the night with the third goal for JS Kabylie in the 83rd minute, leaving the inexperience Gambia’s league champions to head home with a 5-1 aggregate.
Though hopes were still high within the team after the defeat in Banjul, the home side’s poor display with high profile goal keeping errors was less likely to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Armed Forces will now focus on defending their championship title in the Gambia Football Association First Division League. The team bagged nine points in six outings before heading north for their clash with JS Kabylie.VOL:2 ISSN:114
