As CEO Emphasised on Record Breaking
Banjul, The Gambia (TNBES) The GSM Mobile Company, QCell on Friday January 8, 2010 introduced its newest product, the QCell Muslim Phone in The Gambia’s telecommunication industry.
The Muslim Phone, which is dedicated to the former Imam of the Pipeline Mosque, the late Imam Mass Jah has an Azaan Alarm, FM Radio, Colour Display, and Long Battery Life.
The Muslim Phone was launched in Malaysia last week for the first time in the world, and with the forward vision of the QCell Company in Banjul, the Muslim Phone has arrived in The Gambia’s technology market being the first of its kind not only in the country but in Africa.
The Phone cost only D750, however, its network has been locked and it takes only QCell
Sim Cards, and this, the CEO of the Company explained, it is meant to limit the circulation of the phone within the country, as it is the first in the continent.
The phone is also designed to alert Muslims on their five daily prayers and in any country one traveled, he or she can select the country and the phone will provide him or her with the prayer times and alerts. This service can be enjoyed by the owner of the phone even if the phone is off.
“The Muslim phone is classic and the cheapest in The Gambia, as it has been discounted up to 50 percent.”
Speaking at a press conference at QCell’s Headquarters, the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr. Muhammed Jah emphasised that whenever records are broken, especially a record which will positively affect the lives of the people, it will be worthwhile to recognise and celebrate the event of ‘the record breaking’.
“This is good because it will set a new challenge for the rest to try to break the record and that is what brings about development. It creates ambition for the young and growing and increases the quality of life for our people,” he observed.
He remarked: “Today another record has been broken not only in The Gambia, but in the whole of Africa. We are committed that QCell was not going to be just another GSM operator. The idea of bringing to The Gambia “the highest and the best” in telecommunication technology is our goal.”
Mr. Jah added that nothing sort of the best would do as they are aiming to place themselves as industry standards in The Gambia and as such, their goal and challenges are very high.
He noted that the President’s Vision 2020, the Silicon Valley project and many other initiatives are timely responses to the technological challenges of our age. He said that by all standards of reckoning, QCell is what the Americans call a game changer, as it continues to raise the bar in terms of its technology, its services and its products.
He reiterated that QCell is the only 3G network in The Gambia, with facilities and services that no other operator can offer. With a QCell SIM card you can have fast internet access throughout the length breath of The Gambia from Banjul to Koina; video call service that allows you to send and receive video, music and photos from one mobile to another, this product is particularly interesting among young people; QChat service is a social networking application which allows our customers to have fun chats in groups or in private; QTunes allows you to select the music you want people to listen to when they call you.
He added that on occasions we may find the need to switch off our mobiles, but with the QAlert, one will never have to miss a call, as the service is there to alert us of our missed calls; QWAP is another fantastic facility, it allows those with low-end, non-3G phones to access the net and enter the world of rich content, including videos, sport and news; where you have a laptop or desktop but without a wireless connection to the net, the QWEB USB Internet Data Card is what the doctor ordered, because with it, one can have fast, easy and reliable connection to the Web anywhere in The Gambia.
Still on their products, he said that the QCell CUG (Close Users Group) services allow users working in the same institutions to talk and see each other free of charge, thereby reducing the communication cost for both the individual and institutions drastically. “Today with just D375 monthly, one can have access to QCell’s CUG services with a free QCell 3G Mobile phone,” he said.
He also recalled that a few weeks ago, QCell launched the Instant Roaming Sim cards which enable its subscribers to use their QCell Instant Roaming Sim Cards anywhere around the world.
Speaking earlier, the Marketing Manager of QCell, Anam Jah noted that since the inception of the Company in July 2009, they have launched a number of ‘1st time’ products and services in The Gambia.
“We are Gambians and want to see the best come to our country. When we travel outside; we want to bring back the good standards we see to ‘SUNU BUSS’ which is The Gambia,” she said.
She added that they are calling on everyone in The Gambia to support QCell SUNU BUSS, while assuring people that they will continue to offer excellent services at cheapest rates.
On his part, the Mayor of Kanifing, Yankuba Colley expressed gratitude for having to privilege to attend the occasion, citing that Islam wants only good things or deeds and that Mr. Jah is one among Gambians who are ready to move this country forward.
He said that the Company will and continue receive the support of the Council, as he called on all residing in the Kanifing Municipality to work towards the development of the Municipality and that the Council will always compliment peoples efforts with regards to the development of the Municipality.
In his launching statement, Dr. Omar Jah, an elder of the Jah Family also expressed his profound gratitude to all the people, whom he described true Muslims and called on all to stick to the five pillars of Islam.
He advised Muslims to worship Allah and follows the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (SAW), saying that as Muslims we need to be obedient, preach the words of Allah; do what is right and prayed for peace and harmony.
Giving an account of the late Imam Mass Jah, he said that Imam Jah has devoted all his life to Islam and has contributed a lot to the development of Islam in the country, Africa and the world at large. He also noted that he (Imam Jah) was a true Muslim and all his work was for Islam to prosper.
Imam Ratib Cherno Mass Kah, thanked QCell’s CEO and the management for the quality services that they are offering to the populace in the telecommunication sector, adding that the Muslim phone will be of good use to many people, especially the Muslims community.
