Mr Gibairu Janneh has encouraged the Coca-Cola Company to extend its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the Gambian media on Thursday.

“I urge the Coca-Cola to extend its corporate social responsibility to the Gambian media, especially by supporting young journalists,” the Secretary General of The Gambia Press Union said on May 2, 2013.

Janneh was speaking during a reception held at the Coco Ocean hotel in Bijilo which was meant to recognise the company’s partnership with the local media and to discuss how to strength that relationship. It was hosted by the Coca-Cola Company in The Gambia (GAMBEGA).

Ama Bawuah, Public Affairs Communication (PAC) Manager Equatorial Africa Coca-Cola Company, noted the critical role of the media and a longstanding partnership with the media in Africa.

“We are holding this event in order to open up opportunities to the media and to discuss how to strengthen this strong partnership,” Ms Bawuah said.

Sergio Codonyer, PAC Director Equatorial Africa Coca-Cola Bottling Company (ECCBC) expressed his gratitude to the Gambian media for their “historical strong support of the Company’s operations” in the country.

At the event, the Coca-Cola Company announced it has collaborated with MedShare “to donate another container of medical supplies worth over USD $200, 000” to the Edward Francis Small Hospital in Banjul.
